Beyoncé's Single Ladies Obsession

>> Saturday, January 3, 2009

I'll never forget the moment that MTV went too far. I was sitting at a Chilean book festival in a cafe and there was a flat screen TV playing MTV. I don't know who it was and I guess it really doesn't matter, but the video consisted of a rapper, fully clothed, surrounded by women without their shirts on. They were making sexual movements and these women were letting the rapper touch them, as kids and parents walked into and out of the cafe (it was located next to the kid's book section).

As an American woman, it doesn't even phase me to see half naked women dancing around fully clothed men, but as I'm getting older, I've started to see that the problem is that it doesn't phase me.

I could go on forever about that, but that's not the point of this article. The other day I came across Beyoncé's new music video, "Single Ladies."

The song is about women empowerment. It's about strong, confident women dancing to make art and dancing for themselves. That's what young girls should be watching. You can be sexy, use your body for a tool to express yourself, and dance well without trying to seduce a man. This video shows it all:
