Too much free time!

I like to be busy. Is that bad? Maybe. I've had so much time on my hands and have to learn to A) entertain myself and B) find productive things to do in these awkward slots of a few hours here or there. I'm thinking about investing in a Brazilian soap opera to watch on my computer at night, but haven't figured out how to go about finding/buying one of those. I spent a few mornings looking for gyms to join, but they're all about 100 bucks a month and not really worth it when I have a beautiful beach to run on just a few blocks away. But I'm not really a runner, so that hasn't gotten me very far. The stride will come - I just have to give it some time.

This week has been a little bit of an LOL. Apparently it's common in Brazil for no one to show up for the first week of class - I'm talking not even the professor. i.e. I got up at 7:30 this morning for my 9:00 am class and when I arrived I heard from a student that the professor isn't even in Rio until next week. I find the whole joke of the first week really strange, but when I ranted to Jose about how this week has been such a waste, he said, "you're in Latin America. Get used to things like this." I miss Middlebury where everything is clear and organized -
classes run exactly when they are supposed to and the professor gives notice if he/she's not going to be there! Doesn't that make more sense?

Here's graffiti that we found walking around Rio last week. It says, "The world is hard, but smile." It should say, "The world is sometimes very boring, but smile."
