Obama's Inauguration

>> Saturday, December 6, 2008

They're expecting a record turnout for the Obama Inauguration. Some projections have said that as many as 4 million people are going to D.C. for the event, the biggest influx into D.C. since...ever.

Obama will take his oath at noon on January 20 and then go to the parade later in the afternoon.

As the Chicago Tribune put it, "If you're coming to Washington for the inauguration, pack some sturdy boots, a heavy coat, a powerful pair of binoculars, a cartload of patience and especially your platinum card."

Most people will camp on the mall and watch the inauguration on screens and then shift to the presidential parade.

Senators have received tens of thousands of requests for only a few hundred tickets. Suspecting that people want to resell the tickets, Senator Feinstein of California has proposed a bill to make it illegal to do so

There is a 4 night minimum for hotels in D.C. and many hotels have made it mandatory to pay ahead of time.

Some hotels are offering 50,000 to 200,000 packages. In addition, people are opening their homes or renting their homes to people looking for housing during the event.
